Countryside wedding celebration at Bamboo Sky near Cambridge

Why Couples Are Choosing Bamboo Sky for Their Countryside Wedding

A Wedding Venue That Feels Like a Story

Every couple wants their wedding to feel unique — a day that reflects who they are, not a formula repeated a hundred times a year. That’s exactly what draws couples to Bamboo Sky.

Set in the Cambridgeshire countryside, just ten minutes from Cambridge, our venue offers something that traditional wedding spaces simply can’t: a collection of enchanting, distinct spaces woven together by fairy lights, nature, and an atmosphere that guests describe as magical.

There are no identikit function rooms here. No beige conference suites dressed up with chair covers. Instead, there’s a fairy-lit garden anchored by an iconic willow tree, a grand tipi with a central firepit, private heated domes for intimate moments, and a wild meadow stretching out beneath open skies.

It’s a setting that creates the kind of day you’ll remember in detail — not just the big moments, but the quiet ones too.

The Spaces: From Ceremony to Celebration

One of the things couples love most about Bamboo Sky is the flexibility. Our grounds offer multiple distinct spaces, each with its own character, which means your wedding day can flow naturally from one beautiful setting to the next.

The Willow Garden

Our garden is the emotional heart of the venue. Centred around a magnificent willow tree — the same one The Sunday Times featured in March 2023 as one of the most beautiful dining gardens in the country — it’s a setting that needs very little decoration.

Fairy lights thread through the branches. Festoon lighting creates a warm canopy overhead. The terrace provides elevated views across the grounds. For ceremonies, the garden offers an intimate, natural backdrop that photographs beautifully in every season.

The Grand Tipi

For receptions and evening celebrations, our grand tipi is a showstopper. Seating up to 80 guests, it’s draped in fairy lights with a central firepit that adds warmth and atmosphere as the evening unfolds.

The tipi works brilliantly for:

  • Wedding breakfasts — long tables, shared platters, and a communal feeling that brings guests together
  • Evening receptions — clear the floor for dancing, speeches, and celebration
  • Relaxed celebrations — a more informal, festival-style gathering with food stations and free-flowing drinks

Set in our meadow, the tipi provides a sense of occasion and grandeur while still feeling relaxed and unconventional.

The Private Domes

Our heated domes offer something no other wedding venue in the area can match. Picture this: after the ceremony, your closest family members retreat to private domes in the garden for cocktails and canapés, each dome glowing with fairy lights, each one its own little world.

Or use the domes as a unique seating arrangement for a more intimate wedding — small groups gathered in their own pods, connected by the garden but enjoying their own space.

The Diamond Dome, seating up to 14, is particularly popular for bridal party dinners, rehearsal gatherings, and morning-after brunches.

The Restaurant and Bar

For smaller, more intimate weddings, our restaurant and bar provide a warm, characterful indoor space. With its own fireplace, carefully curated decor, and full bar service, it’s a wonderful option for winter weddings or evening-only celebrations.

The Wild Meadow

Beyond the formal grounds, our wild meadow offers an open, natural space for drinks receptions, lawn games, and those golden-hour photographs that every couple hopes for. It’s the kind of space that invites guests to wander, explore, and enjoy the countryside setting.

Food That Your Guests Will Actually Talk About

Wedding food has a reputation problem. Too often it’s safe, forgettable, and designed to offend no one rather than delight anyone. At Bamboo Sky, we take a different approach entirely.

Our skilled Thai chefs prepare authentic Thai cuisine alongside carefully selected British options, giving you a menu that reflects who you are and surprises your guests in the best possible way.

Options include:

  • Sharing platters — generous boards of Thai street food, dim sum, and signature dishes that encourage conversation and set a relaxed, communal tone
  • Set menus — beautifully structured multi-course meals that showcase the range and depth of Thai cooking
  • Canapé service — elegant bites served during drinks receptions, from crispy spring rolls to satay skewers with house-made peanut sauce
  • Sunday roast — for couples who want to blend British tradition with their celebration
  • Late-night bites — because the best weddings always need fuel for the dance floor

We work with every couple to design a menu that fits their vision, their budget, and their guests. Dietary requirements are handled with care and creativity — never as an afterthought.

Drinks That Match the Occasion

Our bar programme brings the same creativity to your wedding as it does to our regular service. Think botanical cocktails served during the ceremony, a signature cocktail created just for your day, champagne toasts as the sun sets over the meadow, and craft beers for the evening celebrations.

We can create a bespoke cocktail menu for your wedding — perhaps a “his and hers” pairing, a welcome drink that nods to your story, or a cocktail that matches your colour scheme. Our bar team thrives on these kinds of details.

A Bespoke Approach, Not a Package

We don’t believe in rigid wedding packages. Every couple is different, and every wedding at Bamboo Sky is designed from scratch to reflect that.

When you get in touch, you’ll work directly with our team to plan every detail — from the flow of the day and the layout of the spaces to the menu, the drinks, and the timing. We’re here to guide, suggest, and support, but ultimately it’s your day and your choices.

What we bring is a venue with genuine character, food that excites, service that’s warm and attentive, and the kind of setting that makes your guests feel like they’ve stepped into something truly special.

Practical Details

A few things worth knowing:

  • Location — Bourn is just ten minutes west of Cambridge, with easy access from the A428 and M11. There’s ample free parking on site.
  • Capacity — from intimate ceremonies of 20 guests to celebrations of 80+ using our tipi and garden spaces.
  • Season — our heated domes and enclosed tipi mean Bamboo Sky works beautifully year-round. Winter weddings here are particularly atmospheric.
  • Accommodation — while we don’t have on-site rooms, there are excellent hotels, B&Bs, and self-catering options in Bourn and the surrounding villages, and Cambridge city centre is just a short drive away.

Start the Conversation

If Bamboo Sky feels like it could be the right fit for your wedding, the best next step is simply to get in touch. We’d love to show you the venue, walk you through the spaces, and start imagining how your day could look.

No two weddings here are the same — and that’s exactly the point.
